Anthéa is a cryo-thermal aesthetic device: it delivers controlled cold and controlled heat to the skin through a handpiece, and it can alternate the two inside a single session. qmd describes it as “non-invasive, frequency-less” — there is no radiofrequency, no ultrasound, no light energy and no suction. The sensation is a warm-and-cool massage, and the client dresses and leaves with no downtime.

It is built in Italy by Hakomed Italia, the company behind the qmd® brand. qmd started in 2014 in physiotherapy and rehabilitation and opened its aesthetics line in 2019; Anthéa, launched in 2024, is the current generation. That engineering pedigree shows in the details: a 180 W unit that runs continuously through a full day of bookings, an ethernet port for remote assistance and a USB port for updates, so support never depends on freight.

The console carries two handpieces, and each one delivers both cold and heat. The flat head is for the body — abdomen, waist, back, legs, glutes, arms. The curved head is shaped for small and contoured areas — the face, the eye contour, the jawline and neck, and, less obviously, hands and feet. Two hoses, two cradles on the console top, and a switch on the screen: one operator moves from a facial to a body session without changing anything.

Sessions are selected on a 15.6-inch full-colour touch screen with preset programs for women and for men, or run in open mode where the operator sets the temperature, time and cycles directly. The LED strip on the front of the cart turns blue in cryo mode and red in thermal mode, so everyone in the room can see what the device is doing.

Anthéa is a cosmetic and general-wellness device. It is operated by trained estheticians and spa staff, it does not require a medical director in the great majority of settings, and it is not an FDA-cleared medical device — confirm your own state licensing rules before you add it to the menu.

There are three ways an aesthetic device can make cold, and the one a manufacturer picks decides what your room smells like, what your staff have to maintain, and what the client actually feels.

Chilled air from a compressor. A fan blows air at around −30 °C at the skin. It works, but it is a jet of cold air on a bare stomach — not every client enjoys it — and the unit collects condensation that somebody has to empty.

Chilled air from CO₂. Colder still, around −60 °C, and it comes out of a gas cylinder that has to be ordered, stored, swapped and paid for. It is a consumable with a delivery schedule attached.

Peltier elements, which is what Anthéa uses. The cold is made electrically inside the handpiece itself, and the head is what touches the client. No air jet, no gas cylinder to reorder, no condensate tray to empty. And because a Peltier element runs in both directions, the same head that chills can also warm — which is the whole reason Anthéa can do cold, heat, trilevel® and contrast from one handpiece instead of needing two machines.

It also changes how the session is delivered. The operator has the head in hand the entire time, gliding it over the gel, watching the skin and adjusting. It is a manual, hands-on session — closer to a massage than to a machine the client is parked under — which is exactly the kind of service that gets rebooked.

Price Anthéa the way you price Cryoskin®, because it sits on the same part of the menu: around $350 for a single session, with courses and packages up to roughly $4,000. The protocols are built around a series rather than one-offs, so the package is the product and the single session is the way in.

Against that, the arithmetic is short. Financed over 60 months, the $24,990 launch price is an illustrative payment of about $547 a month. At $350 a session, two sessions a month cover it. One $4,000 package covers roughly seven months of it. Everything past that is margin on a room you already have.

The gel is the only recurring cost, and it is a few dollars a session. There are no tips, cartridges or applicators to reorder, and no medical director to retain in the great majority of settings. That is why the margin on a cryo-thermal room looks so different from a laser room, and why Anthéa at $24,990 is the fastest payback on any console we carry.

Because the same console runs face and body, the client who books a facial in September is the one you sell a body course to before the holidays — on the same device, with the same operator, in the same room.

The other half of the maths is what the device costs you after year two. Anthéa is built to be serviced part by part: handpieces, display, boards, pump and castors are all individually replaceable and stocked at the factory, so an out-of-warranty fault is a component, not a new console. The warranty runs 24 months from the invoice date, and most support is delivered over the ethernet port rather than by flying a technician to you.
